The years of near misses and frustration came to an end on January 4, 1999 in Sun Devil Stadium for Tennessee fans. The undefeated Tennessee Volunteers came into the 1999 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl to face the Florida State Seminoles looking for their first National Championship in nearly five decades and a measure of respect. The Volunteers came away with both as they beat the favored Seminoles 23-16 to win the schools first National Championship since 1951.Tennessee Volunteers capped a perfect 13 – 0 season! It was the Volunteers first national championship in 47 years! MVP Peerless Price caught four passes for 199 yards. He scored in the fourth quarter on a 79-yard pass reception Officially licensed by the NCAA.
