Description

Go anywhere, do anything Veldskoen (chukka) boot Veldskoen or Vellies, is a Southern African name for the chukka or desert boot. They were originally designed to withstand the harshest arid climates. They were first made in the 17th century by the first Dutch settlers in South Africa. Their design is believed to be based on the traditional Khoisan tribe footwear observed by these settlers. Vellies became part of South African culture, worn by all classes and professions. As the story goes, Nathan Clarks shoe company was inspired by the shape and design of the veldskoen while serving in the second world war. This design would soon create the chukka boot craze that still goes on today
