●The throttle body regulates the proper volume of airflow into the engine which is essential to the mixture of fuel and air in the engine. When a throttle body goes bad, then it wont function properly. If it stays shut then your engine is not going receive air and it wont start. When the throttle gets stuck in an open position than your vehicle will receive too much air and cause it to have a high or fluctuating idle.
●A properly sized throttle body will provide sufficient airflow and velocity for good engine power and throttle response. Essentially, it allows horsepower to flow through it.Therefore, if your throttle body fails, replace it as soon as possible, and your vehicle will drive like new.
Description
What is a throttle body?
A throttle body is a butterfly valve located between the air intake filter and the intake manifold. As the gas pedal is pushed down by driver, the valve opens, allowing air to enter the engine. As more air flows into the engine, it injects more fuel, thus allowing for more power. A properly sized throttle body will provide sufficient airflow and velocity for good engine power and throttle response.
When a throttle body goes bad, then it wont function properly. If it stays shut then your engine is not going receive air and it wont start. When the throttle gets stuck in an open position than your vehicle will receive too much air and cause it to have a high or fluctuating idle.
Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Throttle Body:
1. Dirt, grime, and carbon deposits on the inside of the housing
Similar to dirt and grime, carbon deposits can create an uneven surface inside the walls of the throttle body which can disrupt the atomization of the air/fuel mixture.
2. Electrical problems
In the case of the throttle body, electrical connection problems will cause inaccurate or intermittent information to be relayed to the car’s computer, resulting in faulty corrections to the air/fuel mixture.
3. Vacuum leaks or an incorrectly adjusted throttle stop
Vacuum leaks can disrupt the air/fuel flow due to an imbalance of air flow which can cause throttle body pressure problems. The issue could also be an incorrectly adjusted throttle stop.
4. Poor or high idle
When a throttle body is not functioning correctly, some noticeable characteristics may be poor or very low idle. This can include stalling when coming to a stop or very low idle after starting, or even stalling if the throttle is quickly pressed.

How to replace a throttle body?
1.Open your hood and locate your engines throttle body.
2.Remove the air intake duct at the throttle body.
3.Inspect the throttle body ports for carbon build up. Throttle bore wear is also common after long periods of time and throttle body assemblies will need to be replaced if worn.
4.Remove the throttle cable from the throttle body control lever.
5.Disconnect any air or vacuum hoses from the throttle body.
6.Remove the throttle position sensor from the throttle body.
7.Remove the throttle body mounting screws and remove the throttle body assembly. Discard the old gasket and install a new gasket between the throttle body and manifold during installation.
8.Match the new throttle body to the old throttle body making sure that sensors, hoses and cables are all routed correctly to the new throttle body and that it mounts correctly to the intake manifold.
9.Install in reverse procedure and follow manufacturer torque specifications during installation.
