Tinkuy in Quechua means "meeting" and in our store Tinkuy is where we gather for you the highest quality garments made with the most important natural fibers of Peru: alpaca and cotton.
Our commitment is to travel through Peru looking for the best quality of Peruvian Alpaca and Cotton garments, with beautiful designs and taking care to be fair in our relationship with our artisans and suppliers.
This beautiful animal is only found on the heights of Peru and Bolivia The Alpaca is a camelid native to the Peruvian Andes, it lives over 4,000 meters above sea level and has the fiber with the greatest chromatic variety that exists in the world of weaving, which ranges from white to black, through brown and gray.
Pure Peruvian alpaca wool is one of the most precious natural fibers that exist, comparable only to cashmere, angora rabbit or mohair; it is soft and silky. It is considered a luxury fiber because it is as soft as cashmere and has the sheen of silk. It is as durable as wool, and fleece is extraordinarily light and warm; in fact, alpaca wool is reported to be five times warmer than sheeps wool. This is because the fiber is semi-hollow and crimped, which creates microscopic air pockets that are ideal for insulation.
At Tinkuy we are seriously committed to our environment and our artisans:
We care about the alpacas during the shearing process.
We work directly with artisan families giving them fair treatment.
We care about improving the living conditions of our artisans
