What is it?

The valve cover is mounted on the top of the engine. It covers the valves of the engine, protects the machinery from the elements, and prevents oil leaks. A valve cover gasket seals the valve cover to the top portion of the engine cylinder head. The gasket prevents motor oil from leaking out as it travels around the camshafts, rockers and valves.

This valve cover is made of high-quality materials to resist warping, cracking and porousness, corrosion resistant for sustained protection of the rocker arms.

If valve cover becomes loose or if the gasket material fails, the oil will begin to leak. A leak can cause the engine to have a very strong smell of burning oil, and in some serious cases, it can even cause a fire if enough oil gets onto the exhaust system.

How to replace a valve cover?

Step 1: Allow the engine to cool. Consult the service manual or instructions for valve cover removal. Remove throttle cables, Ignition coils, PCV hoses and anything else in the way. Remove the valve cover bolts.

Step 2: Lift off the valve cover. Tapping with a rubber mallet can help loosen the valve cover’s grip. Be extremely careful not to drop anything into the engine. If a nut or bolt falls into the engine there will be a lot more work to do. Even an old newspaper tented over the engine can help stop this from happening.

Step 3：Wipe the edge off to get all the oil off it fell through when it was pinched all the way around get it nice and clean.

Step 4: Remove the old valve cover gasket.

Step 5: Apply silicone only where required. Do not use silicone or sealer unless the service manual or gasket instructions say to use it. Install the new valve cover gasket.

Step 6: Install the valve cover with the new gasket and tighten bolts to the recommended torque. Valve cover bolts don’t require too much twist. A torque wrench and service manual will eliminate guesswork. Install everything you removed to get at the valve cover.

Step 7:Try gently cinching down the valve cover bolts or use a torque wrench. Over-tightening bolts will not stop bad gaskets from leaking. valve covers can crack. Monitor oil level after tightening. Move on to step one if oil is still leaking.
