Description

This 4 piece set of mortise chisels is made by a small tool manufacturer in the Czech Republic and is of exceptional quality. The blades are made from fine-grained, nicely tempered chrome-manganese steel and hardened to Rc 59. The blades takes and holds an excellent edge. The blades are accurately ground. As with all edge tools, they will require some sharpening before use. These mortise chisels are an excellent value for a good quality tool. This is a set of 4 mortise chisels. It contains a 4 mm (3/16 inch) 6 mm (1/4 inch), 10 mm (3/8 inch) and 12 mm (1/2 inch) chisels. The blades are 5 7/8 inch long and are ground at a 25 degree bevel. The blade widths taper .030 inches from tip to shoulder for sidewall clearance. Thickness of the blades taper from 3/8 inch at the tip to 1/2 inch at the shoulder. Handles are stained Beech and are 6 1/8 inches long and 1 1/2 inches in diameter for a good firm grip. The blades have a well-seated heavy steel tang and the handles have 2 steel ferrules to withstand heavy plows from a mallet. Overall lengths are 12 inches. All come in retail box. In the August 2008 issue of Fine Woodworking Magazine, the Narex chisels earned Authors Choice for "Best Value" in the western style bench chisel category.
