All 3 sizes of weights next to a U.S. dime for size comparison
Tungsten is a rare natural earth metal. It is classified as a refractory metal due to its very high melting point (3422°C) and low vapor pressure. It also has the highest tensile strength of all metals at temperatures over 1650°C. It is incredibly dense, with a density similar to gold and uranium. In fact, tungsten even means "heavy stone" in Swedish. Tungsten is typically alloyed with other materials because pure tungsten is extremely brittle and difficult to machine.
Our tungsten weights have helped many of our customers win their Pinewood Derby races and create lifelong memories.
Tungsten weights are about 2x as heavy as steel weights at an equivalent size. This means you can get considerable amounts of weight on your car without sacrificing style or exceeding the size limits.
Plus, all young scouts will be excited to know that the same material in their pinewood car is also in rocket ships and real racecars!
