What is Thermoplastic Beads (PCL)?
PCL is a semi-crystalline polymer, the polyester with the structure [CH2-(CH2)4-COO]n is obtained by ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone with titanium catalyst and dihydroxy or trihydroxy initiator. Colorless crystalline solid of lower molecular weight. Its melting point is 60-69°C, and its glass transition temperature is -60°C. There are 5 non-polar methylene groups?CH2 and one polar ester group?COO? on the repeating unit of its structure, namely?(COO?CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2?)Pn. Therefore, in nature, the ester structure is easily decomposed by microorganisms or enzymes, and the final products are CO2 and H2O.
The shape memory function of PCL is mainly derived from the existence of two incompletely compatible phases within the material: a stationary phase that maintains the shape of the molded product and a reversible phase that softens-hardens reversibly with temperature changes. Under the action of recovery stress, the stationary phase will restore the product to its original shape.
