Toyota Tundra 14-19 (Crewmax Models):

Front & Rear Stake Pockets -

  • Drill a ½” pilot hole in the center of the scribe lines, then insert our Router Bit (Model#5566) into a router, and set at 13/16” depth. Run the bit counter-clockwise to open the hole.
  • Alternatively, you can use a razor blade to cut the plastic rail. The scribe lines that show the stake pockets on the rail caps are correct. So carefully use that blade to cut out the plastic square along those scribe lines, remove the plastic piece, and install our retractable anchor.

*Does not fit on 2020+ Toyota Tundra trucks. Bed designs have changed on the 2020 model, where some trucks no longer have stake pockets underneath the plastic rail cap.*

Front Stake Pockets –

  • The scribe lines in the front of the rail caps are incorrect, and are actually larger than the stake pocket hidden underneath. Drill a ½” pilot hole in the center of rail cap cover, then insert our bit into a router, and set at 13/16” depth. Run the bit counter-clockwise to open the hole.
  • Alternatively, you can use a razor blade to cut the plastic rail. The scribe lines that show the stake pockets on the rail caps are incorrect. So carefully use that blade to cut out the plastic square along those scribe lines, remove the plastic piece, and install our retractable anchor.

Rear Stake Pockets –

  • The rear stake pockets appear to be open, but have a plastic lip that covers over the metal bed. For our retractable anchors to be properly installed, that plastic lip must be removed so that our stainless steel plate makes contact with the metal bed. The easiest way to remove this plastic edge is to use our Saw Blade Bit to cut the plastic lip just below the metal, then use our Router Bit to clean up the plastic on top. Adjust the saw blade to about 1/8" below the router platform- so your blade is just an 1/8" down in the hole. Run the router counter-clockwise until the whole channel is cut free. Then use the Hidden Pocket Router bit to clean up and finish the hole trim.
  • Alternatively, you can use a razor blade to cut the plastic rail. The scribe lines on the rear of rail caps are correct. So carefully use that blade to cut out the plastic square along those scribe lines, remove the plastic piece, and install our retractable anchor. Extend the blade about 3/16" not too deep - (there is paint under there) and follow the scribe line on the rear of the truck.

Recommended: Router Bit System

  • The design of our Hidden Pocket Router Bit (Model#5566) incorporates 4 roller bearings that run along the steel pocket as a guide. It only cuts the plastic, without scratching or cutting the painted metal surface of the rail. Using this router bit gives you a perfect cut every time and allows you to then place our Retractable Anchor into the now exposed stake pocket for a perfect fit.
  • Rear Pocket Saw Bit (Model#5567) is for use on 2009+ Dodge RAM trucks. These trucks have rear stake pockets that appear to be open, but actually have a plastic lip that goes a few inches down into the stake pocket. For our retractable anchors to be properly installed, that plastic lip must be removed so that our stainless steel plate can make contact with the metal bed. The easiest way to remove this plastic edge is to use our Saw Blade Bit in a router to cut the plastic lip just below the metal, then use our innovative Hidden Pocket Router Bit to clean up the plastic on top.
