What’s better than homemade maple syrup?

Pure, real maple syrup is sweet, rich, and thick. And it’s full of natural sugar and healthy minerals that give it that deep, distinctive taste. Why go for the store-bought imitation stuff when you have everything you need to make it in your own backyard?

Once you’ve collected your sugary sap, you need to clear out large debris and impurities before you can even begin to boil it down. After boiling, the natural minerals harden into sugar sand, or niter, and leaving it in could ruin how your syrup looks or tastes.

The 6-Piece Maple Syrup Filter Set from Sap Happy Sugarin’ Supplies lets you make delicious maple syrup at home!

A Set With Everything You Need

Maple syrup comes from the sweet, sugary sap of maple trees. Sap is harvested in early spring and is collected by sugar makers by the gallon. Did you know that it takes ten gallons of sap just to make one quart of syrup?

Our 6-piece maple syrup filter set includes one heavy-duty maple sap filter, five lighter prefilters, and a card with instructions that will guide you all the way.

Proper Filtering Is Key

Freshly harvested sap is mostly water. It’s runny, clear, and not as sweet as you expect. Boiling it down gets the water out and reduces it to the thick, sugary syrup we all know and love.

Our lightweight pre-filters can help you get rid of the little bits of bark, twigs, and other impurities that sometimes still make it through the strainer. Heavy-duty filtering when it’s hot can get rid of sugar sand, giving you the perfect clarity and flavor.

Start With Small Batches

It can take years of seasons and multiple attempts to get the hang of making your own maple syrup. It’s a complicated, sensitive process, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t hit gold on your first try.

Starting with smaller batches is better for new learners, homemakers, and hobbyists. This little filter set is here to help, giving you all the supplies you need to start making your own maple syrup at home!

Washable & Reusable

It’s recommended to change out your prefilters every two or three gallons of sap. Trying to rush the process could force sugar sand through, wasting your time and potentially ruining a batch. It’s better to have multiples on hand.

With proper care and gentle handling, our maple syrup filters are washable and can be used many times.

Remember not to use dish soap or detergent on the filters. Simply rinse with hot water and hang them to dry.

The Same Filters Pros Use

Doing maple sugaring is an age-old tradition. Even before industries and factories were established, people were tapping trees and cooking up syrup with tools and materials made from nature.

You can try experimenting with different things like cheesecloth and coffee filters. But for the safest bet, our food-grade filters made specifically for maple syrup fit most standard sieve stands and should hold up well for small home batches.

Chart Your Own Process

Did you know that different species and harvest times affect sap? As it gets warmer and the snow begins to thaw, the chemistry inside the trees changes. That’s why sap collected later in the year can be darker and thicker.

Thicker sap may filter slower, so you can try using fewer layers for more rounds. What’s in your sap is going to affect the process. Its good to be flexible!
