How to Identify Counterfeit, Uncertified, Unregistered, or Potentially Unsafe Products
- Any company must be able to back up claims they make about about destroying pathogens. If they don’t show a USA lab report backing up their claims, be wary.
- Any legitimate and properly certified company producing sanitization products for US distribution must have an EPA establishment number. No EPA establishment number provided? Be very wary.
- Any product claiming to sterilize objects must be able to prove it kills 100% of pathogens (not just 99.99%). If it kills only 99.9% of pathogens then what it’s doing is sanitization, not sterilization. Watch out for companies making improper claims! If they arent honest about what their product does, where else are they cutting corners?
- Broken English in the product description? Foreign EPA establishment number? Do you want to have to deal with foreign service agents or having to ship a product back to China if theres a problem? If a company cant prove they produce their products in the USA, proceed with caution.
How to Identify Foreign Products
Just because a company has an EPA establishment number doesnt mean its products are produced in the U.S.
- An EPA establishment number with a 2-letter code such as NY (94836-NY-1, for example) means the product is produced in that state.
- An EPA establishment number formatted like 98765-CHN-1 with a 3-letter code means the product is produced in another country. In this example CHN stands for China.
