NOTE:

  • Direct thermal printed labels typically have a considerable shelf life but are not well suited for environments that expose them to heat, long periods of direct sunlight, or abrasion.
  • If the label is overexposed to heat, light, or other catalysts, the material will darken and make the text or barcode unreadable.

Why are your thermal label prints poorly, faded, or missing prints?

1. Incorrect heat settings

If the heat settings on your printer are set too high, they could cause the image to smudge and be printed very blurred. If the heat settings are too low, the opposite will happen and you will have a faded image. Having the correct heat settings will make sure that your label is printed correctly, and remove potential problems in scanning and reading barcodes.

2. Your labels are overexposed to direct sunlight or high temperatures

  • How long do thermal printed labels last?

Because it uses heat-sensitive materials, direct thermal labels do not have a long shelf-life, usually lasting around six to eight months. They have a tendency to scratch easily, and overexposure to direct sunlight or high temperatures will cause the print to fade faster.

  • How do you keep thermal labels from fading?

Avoid extended UV exposure to prevent the labels from fading too quickly. Storing your labels in a cabinet with a door or in a breathable opaque container will shield them from harmful light.
