Description

This compression spring is made of highly magnetic steel music wire and has an outside diameter (OD) of 0.18 inch and a wire size of 0.024 inch. It is made of steel music wire for greater strength than stainless steel or copper wire. The spring ends are closed and ground (squared) for efficient transfer of force, and reduced risk of tangling. This spring has a load capacity of 3.81 pounds and a maximum operating temperature of 250 degrees F (121 degrees C). It has an oil finish that is dry to the touch for added corrosion resistance. This music wire compression spring meets American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) A228 or Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS) 5112 for quality assurance and it is good for use in non-corrosive environment applications.

Compression springs are open-coil helical springs that are used to save space and absorb shock in a variety of applications. They absorb the energy of a force acting upon them by becoming shorter, store that energy while compacted, and expand as they release the energy. These springs are either placed over a rod, or fitted inside a hole, and are found in a wide variety of applications ranging from automotive engines and large stamping presses to major appliances and lawn mowers, medical devices, cell phones, electronics, and sensitive instrumentation devices.
