Description

The term Talavera has erroneously been used to describe all Mexican tile. Authentic Talavera comes from the city of Puebla and the nearby communities of Atlixco, Cholula, and Tecali, because of the quality of the natural clay found there and the tradition of production which goes back to the 16th century. Unlike production Mexican tile where the colors are applied through a screen with a squeegee. Each of our tiles is handmade. From the mixing of the black sand from Amozoc and white sand from Tecali, twice firing and the traditional designs; entirely handmade and painted. This is the exact technique that is on the beautiful buildings still standing today after 400 years.

Only a handful of companies still produce Talavera in this manner. At Puebla Tile you will find the highest quality Talavera.
