Product Description

3M Random Orbital Buffer 28392 is designed for use in automotive manufacturing (AOEM) paint shop applications for buffing or polishing medium-size defects on clear coat, powder coat, acrylic, solid surface and polyurethane. It features a powerful yet quiet 0.45 HP precision-balanced air-powered motor and numerous ergonomic features for expert handling and superior comfort during prolonged use.

From the Manufacturer

The 3M™ Random Orbital Buffer 28392 is a 5" air-powered random orbital tool designed for use in automotive manufacturing (AOEM) paint shop applications for buffing or polishing medium-size defects on clearcoat, powdercoat, acrylic, solid surface, and polyurethane. It features a powerful 0.45 hp precision-balanced air-powered motor and ergonomic enhancements for increased operator comfort during repeated use. Used together with 3M™ Finesse-it™ Polishes and Foam Buffing Pads (sold separately), the dual action feature with a 3/8" (10 mm) orbit makes it nearly impossible to burn the paint and provides a uniform, haze-free and professional-looking paint finish, eliminating the need for a secondary polisher. For greater operator comfort during hours of use, the tool grip features patented 3M™ Gripping Material to reduce user fatigue, providing a secure hold and enhanced control with less hand pressure, even if polish finds its way onto the grip.

The Nitty Gritty
The Random Orbital Buffer 28392 requires the use of an air compressor and hose (sold separately). For best results, the tool should be run flat against the work surface with approximately 4 pounds of force. The interior threaded spindle is 5/16-20, and max RPM is 10,000.

3M™ Hookit™ Disc Pad Included for Optimal Performance
The included 3M Hookit Disc Pad 84226 has a low profile to accommodate a 3M Finesse-it Foam Buffing Pad or other hook-and-loop buffing pad (pads sold separately)and provides a secure hook-and-loop attachment for the pad. Constructed from premium, industrial-quality materials and featuring a riveted fiberglass and steel hub with molded urethane, the disc pad’s durability and precise construction is the ideal complement to the industrial-level performance of the Buffer 28392. Use the tool only with foam pads, never with wool, and professional results are optimized with the use of a very fine polish such as Finesse-it Polish.

Using Your Pneumatic Buffer
The Buffer 28392 requires a clean lubricated air supply that will give a measured air pressure at the tool of 6.2 bar (90 psi) when the tool is running with the lever fully depressed so the maximum RPM is not exceeded. The tool can be run at lower pressures but should never be run higher than 6.2 bar (90 psi). If run at lower pressure the performance of the tool is reduced. For pneumatic power to the tool, an approved 10 mm (3/8 inch) x 8 m (25 feet) maximum length airline is recommended. The tool must be connected to an airline system with an easily accessible air shut off valve. It is strongly recommended that an air filter, regulator, and lubricator (FRL) be used to supply clean, lubricated air at the correct pressure to the tool. An appropriate air pressure regulator must be used at all times while operating this tool when the supply pressure exceeds the marked maximum of the tool, 10,000 RPM. If such equipment is not used, the tool should be manually lubricated. For instructions on connecting the tool to the air supply and manually lubricating the tool, see the Instruction Manual.
