VINEHEAT DE-ICING CABLES AT WORK

  • This cable is designed for installation on inclined roofs with non-combustible tab shingles (such as asphalt shingles), metal or plastic gutters, downspouts, and valleys.
  • Ice dams should not form as long as a heated path from the roof to a safe discharge area is maintained.
  • Install the de-icing heating cable in a “zigzag” pattern along the lower edge of the sloping roof. The cable should extend at least 12” above the level of the outer building wall or 6” above the snow fence, whichever is higher, and extend down into the gutter. This will ensure a continuous run-off path for water.
  • The cable can work with an optional power ON/OFF switch or a Thermostatically Controlled Adapter which is a moisture and temperature sensor control that operates the de-icing cable only when moisture is present and the temperatures drop below freezing.

Warnings

  2. Do not use on roofs with wooden shingles, rubber roofs, or composite (tar and gravel) roofs, or on wooden gutters or downspouts.

SNOW AND ICE BUILD-UP ON ROOFS CAN BE EXPENSIVE AND DANGEROUS

SNOW AND ICE CAN BE ‘PRETTY’ COSTLY

Although pretty to look at, snow and ice build-ups on roofs can result in expensive repairs to roofs and exterior walls as well as interior walls, ceilings, and floors.

BAD IDEA #1

Shoveling snow on a flat concrete sidewalk or a driveway can lead to injury. Standing on ice and snow on an inclined roof and shoveling ice and snow is much more likely to have a bad ending. And it can also seriously damage your roof.

BAD IDEA #2

Standing on a ladder in frigid weather and using a broom to clear off snow and ice is almost as dangerous as Bad Idea #1.
