How to make your dogs get used to wear shoes?
1. Shave Puppy’s Feet Hair
Overgrown feet fur will hinder dog’s movement, causing slipping or tripping when they walk. A proper shaving can help them move more freely and dissipate heat better.
2. Select A Suitable Size
Size will vary by different breeds or shapes and many dogs have wider front paws than rear paws. So please do measure the size of every paw before buying shoes for your beloved pet.
3. Choose Dog Shoes with Proper Material
Depending on the weather and environment, you can choose breathable dog shoes for hot climate; and in rainy or snowy days, waterproof shoes will be a wise choice.
4. Be Patient with The Process
Some dogs may not get accustomed to wearing shoes immediately so they will refuse to walk or act rather hilariously. What is important is your patient guidance to help them to walk with shoes on. And if the dog strongly rejects to wear the shoes, you can put on 2 shoes as a transition, then gradually add to 4. Please do stop your puppy when you find they are biting the shoes!!
5. Reward Puppy with Treats
Your encouragement and treats will be the best reward for your puppy’s struggle! You can train them to walk indoors first, and play some games such as ball catching, and reward them with some snacks. Once your pets can find joy in their walk with shoes on, you can then take them to the outdoor adventure!
