The tradition of string making dates back to the 1640s in Salle, Italy, where the Mari family supplied gut strings to the famous violin builders of Cremona. In 1913, brothers Olinto & Emilio Mari arrived in New York bringing their family craft to the States. Over the years, the brothers shaped the landscape of the string industry with their innovative designs. Every set is manufactured using a perfect combination of traditional methods and latest technologies to produce a superior string.

The tradition of string making for the Mari family was first recorded in Salle, Italy in the 1640s. The “House of Mari” supplied gut strings to legendary violin makers Amati, Cremona & Stradivari.
In 1913, brothers Emilio and Olinto Mari left Italy to seek new opportunities in America, settling in NYC where they handmade gut strings in their small apartment. After much success, they opened their first factory in 1914, and soon after started making strings under the brand “La Bella”.
