The controller can automatically identify the model of the lead-acid battery(AGM or GEL). Lithium(LiFePO4) battery requires a manual setting.
The sequence of connecting:
1st: Connect the battery to the solar charge controller;
2nd: Connect the solar panel to the solar charge controller.
Sequence of disconnecting:
1st: Disconnect the solar panel from the solar charge controller;
2nd: Disconnect the battery from the solar charge controller.

Q1: Could I use this charge controller for my 12v solar system?
A: Yes. It is designed for a 12v battery NOT for a 6v, 8v, or 24v battery.
(Two 6v batteries may also be used if connected in series; multiple 12v batteries may also be used while connected in parallel).
Q2: Will this MPPT charge controller work with a Lithium battery? Like LifePO4 lithium battery?
A: Yes, this charge controller supports Wet, Gel, AGM, Flooded, and Lithium batteries.
Q3: Is it waterproof?
A: Yes. Elf 10 is good for exposure to water spray, and rain. Great for outdoor use. Not to immerse it in the water.
