Pore Size
- For column systems using 3um or larger particles, a 0.45um syringe filter or membrane can be used.
- For chromatographic systems with packings smaller than 3um, or those involving microbial growth, a 0.2um filter is recommended.
- For difficult to handle turbid solutions, 1-5um filter membrane can be used for pre-filtration, and then the corresponding filter membrane is used for subsequent filtration.
Material of Microporous Membranes
- Hydrophilic samples: select hydrophilic membranes. It has an affinity for water and is suitable for filtering water-based solutions. Available filter membranes are: mixed cellulose membrane, polyvinyl alum (PEsM), NylonM, etc.
- Strong corrosive organic solvent: hydrophobic membrane is generally used. Membranes such as PTFEM, polypropylene (PPM) and other materials
- Protein solution: choose a filter membrane with low protein adsorption, such as PVDF filter membrane.
- Ion chromatography: It is generally believed that PEs membranes are more suitable for filtration of solutions with low inorganic ions.
