IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR FIRST TIME USERS...
Unlike ordinary household steam irons, Industrial Gravity Feed Steam Irons (IGFSI) generate a whole lot of steam very quickly. When operating your iron, its important that you dont hold the steam button down for an extended length; just a few seconds is all you need for a full burst of thick steam. Holding the button too long can cause the iron to build up way too much steam, which will result in sputtering, spitting, and often profuse leaking from under the sole plate. If you notice the iron start to sputter, spit, or leak, stop ironing, dry the iron thoroughly, then resume, but this time use the steam button more sparingly.

STEP 1 : Install Sole PlateThe non-stick laminate sole plate, also called an iron shoe, is an invaluable companion for your Silver Star gravity-fed steam iron. It prevents overheating, burns, scorching, and shine, it also helps evenly disburse the steam that’s emitted by your Silver Star iron. To install, simply lay the sole plate on a flat surface with the white laminate side down, lift the attached spring and slide the iron underneath the spring. (Fig 1) Push the iron forward until it fully seats into the sole plate, (Fig 2) then position the spring as needed to apply proper tension and support. (Fig 3) |
STEP 2 : Connect Water BottleIts important to always use demineralizer to remove heavy metals and other contaminates from the water before it enters your iron. The Silver Star inline demineralizer cartridge makes this easy! Simply connect one end of the short black rubber hose to the outlet on your water bottle, connect the other end to the inlet of your demineralizer cartridge, and connect the outlet of the cartridge to your blue water supply hose. (Fig 1) After the demineralizer cartridge is in place, slip the 4” steel spring over the open end of your blue water supply hose and then gently slide the hose and spring onto the solenoid valve inlet, which is located on the side of your iron. (Fig 2) Make sure the water supply hose and steel spring are securely seated against the solenoid valve. (Fig 2) Finally, install the small white hooks, as needed, to the hose and power cord so they’re easier to manage (fig 3). |
STEP 3: Fill & Hang Water BottleYour bottle has a minimum water level that is clearly marked with a blue line. Fill the bottle with as much clean tap water as you need, making sure it exceeds the minimum. The bottle may be hung from a hook permanently affixed to the ceiling or a wall, or you may find it handy to get yourself an IV pole to hang it from, which makes it portable. (IV poles are available on Amazon, of course!) The important thing when hanging the bottle is to make sure the bottom of the bottle is at least 3 feet (36 inches) above your ironing surface. (Fig 2) It can hang higher if you prefer, but it should never hang lower than 36 inches. Last, open the water valve on the bottom of your hanging water bottle and youre ready to begin ironing. |
A touch of the button is all you need to generate a whole lot of steam very quickly. Never hold the button down for more than a few seconds, because this can cause the iron to spit and sputter, and to leak water onto your project.
