A spare tire is an additional tire carried in a motor vehicle as a replacement for one that goes flat, has a blowout, or has another emergency. Spare Tire Hoist holds the spare tire in place under the vehicle. A spare tire carrier utilizing an eccentric gear mechanism for hoisting a spare tire.

If you have a faulty spare tire hoist assembly, you cant lower the spare when you need to change your tire. The usual cause of this is a rusted or corroded winch cable. How to replace a spire tire hoist ?

step 1: Lowering the Tire

Pull off the spare tire tools panel, Pull out the tire jack, Put the tire jack into the tire hoist, Turn the jack counterclockwise to lower the tire, If the secondary safety latch engages, press the tire up with a floor jack to release the latch

If the latch will not disengage, remove the hoist as described in Step 2

step 2: Removing the Tire Hoist

Remove the bolts that hold the hoist, Lower the tire and hoist, If you cannot remove the hoist normally, cut it off as described in Step 3

step 3: Cutting of the Hoist

Cut the secondary latch with a reciprocating saw or a torch, Cut off any stuck bolts with a torch, Remove the bolts from the hoist, Pull the hoist off

step 4: Replacing the Bolt Clips

Pry off the bolt clips with a flat blade screwdriver, Push the new clips into place, using a hammer

step 5: Installing the New Hoist

Lift the new hoist into place, Insert the bolts into the hoist, Lower the hoist cable with the tire hoist jack, Put the tire carrier through the tire, Raise the tire by turning the tire hoist jack clockwise, Put away the tire hoist jack, Close up the jack panel
