Mixing the hot water with cold water from the main supply means less hot water is required from the tank, therefore boosting the water heater’s capacity and the amount of usable hot water. Increasing the tank’s temperature to 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) or higher will help avoid impurity in the tank.
