What’s spaetzle? A special type of pasta made with fresh eggs that will make both your mouth and your stomach very happy, typically serving as a side for meat dishes with gravy. Commonly associated with Swabia (a cultural, historic and linguistic region in southwestern Germany), it is also found in the cuisines of southern Germany and Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and Slovenia.
It is a soft pasta noodle or dumpling made from flour, eggs, salt and water or milk. The dough is made soft enough to force through the KEISSCO Spaetzle Maker Plane with large holes. In Germany, spaetzle is served on its own as a side dish in the same manner as potatoes or rice are served, most often accompanied by gravy or sauce. Add finely chopped spinach to the dough for spinach spaetzle, or grated cheese for cheese spaetzle. You can also add butter, cinnamon, and sugar to the dough for a fabulous dessert.
