Hand Sanding When sanding without a block, fold a sheet in half lengthwise, then fold it again into thirds. This will provide a palm size pad. Start with the coarsest grit and then work your way through the finer grades

Machine sanding Cut a sheet to fit your power tool by placing it on a surface with the grain side down, measure and cut with the grain side in and make a sharp crease and use the crease as a tear line.
