Description

Coiling is a basketry method where one material is wrapped around another in a spiral. Generally the materials used for wrapping are soft and flexible while the coil can be a bit more rigid. Designs can be created by using multiple colors and textures. These instructions will teach you how to coil a small basket. The beginning of the basket is the most difficult part. Basketry requires patience and perseverance. Keep at it and you will be proud of your new skills and finished basket. The kit comes packed in a plastic bag that can be used to store materials while you make your basket. Basketry is not easy, you will be proud of your achievement. With time you can develop your skill at a traditional craft. This basket can take 2+ hours to complete. Please Note: This kit makes a very small basket. The project is meant as an affordable introduction to basket making because basketry takes time and patience. This project takes about 2 hours. If you decide you want to make a larger basket, you can always add on more materials to expand your project. A larger basket can be designed and made once you learn the skill. In my opinion, the process of coiling and weaving is fun regardless of size. Many weavers make small baskets on purpose.
