How did you come up with the idea for this product?
Attempting to use my laptop in peak summer on a popular roof deck in Williamsburg, New York, I quickly grasped why such a beautifully designed space was completely deserted every day... because laptops suck outside. The sunlight made it impossible to see my screen, and my Macbook would overheat and shut down in just a few minutes of exposure to the sun. I set about prototyping a clunky cardboard solution, and immediately began collecting compliments from just about everyone that saw it. Then, in March 2020 while living in Austin, TX, the global pandemic forced everyone to suddenly start working from home, from the pool, from their backyards and balconies, and I realized it was the perfect time to develop the idea, get it patented it and launch SunShader to the world.
