Beijing, China, 1900. A fundamentalist movement known as the Boxer Rebellion is expanding. Their attack is directed against all foreigners. A split in the imperial court does not guarantee immunity even to diplomats. In the face of a threat, employees of foreign missions organize armed defense. Major Matt Lewis arrives in Beijing on a special mission to protect the American ambassador. Together with the British consul Sir Arthur Robertson and other diplomats, they turn the embassy into an armed fortress. An unequal battle with the rebels begins.
