Morpho menelaus lives in the rainforests of the Neotropics and is active day and night, flying agilely and feeding on the juices of ripe tropical fruits.

The complex structures on the wings of the flash butterflies produce a rainbow of brilliant colors under the action of optics. When a flock of flash butterflies fly in the rainforest, they shine with blue, green and purple metallic shine, which creates the "blue phantom".
