Biographical musical about the life of famed Broadway actor, singer and dancer George M. Cohen, author of patriotic American songs. The picture is built as a chain of memories of the aged Cohen about his own life, from his birthday (July 4, 1878) to the presentation of an award from the hands of the US President for his contribution to the arts. This is the life story of a man who himself produced, wrote and acted in his music shows. Scenes from Georges childhood performances, the story of his collaboration with writer/producer Sam Gerris, re-enactments of fragments of Cohens Broadway performances. It is to him, as the theorist of the American musical, that the famous definition of the genre belongs - (Rhythm, rhythm and again rhythm!).
