How To Apply

The Armor CR100 is designed for roll or airless sprayer application. If using a roller, rollers should only be used on horizontal applications, and not vertical. Airless sprayers must be chemical resistant, and have a tip size of 0.2 inches or larger (example, a 425 or 519 tip). Other equipment that may be required include brushes, rollers, scraper, masking tape, plastic sheet, high gpm and psi pressure washer, electric drill with mixer, empty pails for clean-up, running water, and rags. Personal protective equipment should also be used. Personal protective equipment includes gloves, goggles, respirators, and any other equipment you feel necessary. Be sure to cover and protect areas where stripping is not desired, including adjoining surfaces where over spray may travel. Plant life should be protected/covered during the time of application to avoid damaging them. If you are using masking tape, apply two layers of tape and remove the top layer immediately after application as the CR100 may soak through the tape and damage what’s below it. While plastic sheets have shown to be an effective barrier to cover and protect areas, it is always suggest to run your own tests to ensure the plastic sheet chosen is resistant to the CR100.

MIXING: Stir well before using. Material may separate during long term storage. DO NOT THIN!

APPLICATION: Using a 1/2”-3/4” nap roller, or an airless sprayer, apply a thick, even layer of stripper onto the sealer, coating, or paint that is to be removed. If you are using a sprayer, always start at the lowest pressure setting, and slowly build up the pressure until the proper fan pattern has been generated. High pressure and narrow tip sizes will break the CR100’s emulsion and affect it’s integrity. The CR100 must be applied at approximately 2X (two times) the thickness of the material being removed. If you are applying the CR100 to a gloss or greasy vertical surface, or to a thick build sealer, coating, or paint, it is recommended to apply the CR100 via two separate applications. First, apply a light coat of approximately 12– 15 mils (thick enough to hide the surface color of the coating you are trying to remove) and allow it to dwell for 15-30 minutes. Then, build the rest of the stripper film thickness in a second application. Scrubbing the surface with a stiff brush periodically prior to washing off the CR100 may increase penetration and the effectiveness of the stripper, especially on rough surfaces. If using a brush to agitate, make sure the underlying surface is completely covered with CR100.

When you are removing multiple layers of existing sealer, paint, or coating, it may be possible that there is inadequate inter-coat adhesion between some layers. Premature delamination may occur. If this happens, quickly remove the delaminated layers and reapply the CR100. Do not rinse with water between applications and do not allow the CR100 to dry out. The CR100 is designed to remain wet, and effective over extended periods of time (up to 24-48 hours), however, excessive or direct sunshine, wind, and insufficient thickness may cause early drying. Use plastic sheeting to cover stripper to minimize evaporation. If the stripper starts to dry, reapply a light coat and allow and extended time frame for project completion.

The time required for adequate penetration will vary depending on the type and thickness of the coating, and the temperature of the coating. Most paints and acrylic sealers require 20 minutes to 2 hours. Most 2-part coatings, such as epoxies and urethanes, require 2-36 hours. CR100 can be left overnight, but do not allow it to dry out.

REMOVAL: When the coating is ready to be removed, you will start to notice signs. Signs could include bubbling, wrinkling, or visible delamination (lifting). To fully test if the coating is ready to be removed, agitate the surface with a stiff bristle brush. If the coating is easily lifted, it is ready to be removed.

Removal of the lifted paint can be completed by scraper, squeegee, wet/dry vacuum, or high pressure washing (above 3000 psi). The stripped surface must be rinsed with water to remove all chemical residue before resealing, repainting, or recoating. If residue still exists on the surface, reapplication of the CR100 is necessary. If reapplying, be sure the surface is allowed to completely dry at least 24 hours before applying the CR100.

PLEASE NOTE: It is always recommended to test the product in a small, inconspicuous area on the same concrete, brick, paver, or masonry substrate prior to a full application. Test areas help to determine project suitability, coverage rates, and application and removal techniques.

Coverage

Coverage Rate: 50-100 ft2/gallon

Coverage will vary depending on the type of coating being removed and the amount of coating build up, porosity, surface condition, application method, and the amount of material applied by the applicator. The above coverage rates are estimates and will vary. Excessive build up should be avoided.
