What if all steps are not needed?

They cant be removed. Must extend fully

What is the width of each step? Will this fit on the rear side door of a Subaru Forester?

Steps are 17 inches wide.Only you know how wide your vehicle back door opens to. Measure the opening to be sure the width of the ramp can fit and extend straight to the ground.

Will these stairs work for getting in the back door?

It is recommended that you measure the height of the car before purchase. the height of the four steps ladder suitable for the back door is between 22"-28", and the height of the five steps ladder suitable for the back door is between 28"-36".

How do I adjust the angle lower?

The angle is really adjusted by the height of the vehicle trunk. The steps pull out to expand and the front of the steps is firm to the ground. They are very easy to maneuver and put into place. They are sturdy for a large dog.
