●After the gourds are harvested, the artisan removes the outer green skin with a dull knife, exposing the lighter brown color underneath. Then the gourds are cleaned and dried in the hot Peruvian sun

These gourds are carved by artisans in Peru.The designs are carved on the gourd without sketching creating many intricate designs. Our designs vary because of the varying creativity of each artist. Gourd carving is one of the oldest art forms in Peru and dates back to 2,500 BC.
