Are these safe enough to leave on every night on a backyard deck?

Yes, it is low output voltage, in addition you can set a working time (3/5H) by remote safer (Including dimmer).

Why did the remote control not automatically shut down and switch to different modes after timed operation?

The remote cannot continuously and quickly adjust buttons; and the timing issue is maybe interference from multiple remote/cellphone signals; If it occurs, please use the remote to close it remotely. Or unplug the plug and reinsert it for use.

If one LED Edison bulb goes out, will the rest stay lit ?

Yes, these light strands are connected in parallel, so one bulb broke or burnt won’t affect the rest bulb. And you will get two additional bulbs in package. NOTE: Output voltage DC 24V, 1A, MAX: 24W, the more bulbs connected, it will become dim.

Why do some light bulbs not light up/ relatively dark?

Please tighten all connecting parts to ensure a proper operation. Please try to extra 1-2 turns even if the bulbs have been tightened. If still doesnt work, please use a replacement light bulb.

Will the remote control malfunction when pressed quickly?

Sorry. Because the operation is set to be pressed at least once every 1 second, if the remote is pressed continuously and quickly, it will cause the remote to malfunction. At this time, the plug can only be unplugged and reinserted to be reused.
