It can clamp on a round pole or a flat surface with a diameter of 15-54mm.

Is this working for microphone?

It compatible with many devices with 1/4"-20 threaded hole, such as: LCD monitor, flash lights, microphone or gopro.

Is this stainless steel or aluminum alloy? Any plastic parts that can break or strip?

The main body of the magic arm is made of aluminum alloy, and the small silver parts is made of stainless steel, strong and durable. No any plastic parts.

Can it hold heavier items such as cameras?

A full sized DSLR might be a little heavy, but a smaller mirrorless camera might be okay. It depends on the maximum load of the arm.
