Product Description & How we calculate the Leather Surface?

how to calculate leather surfacehow to calculate leather surface

We use automatic surface calculating machine

We use a highly precise measuring machine to measure the leather surface as it does not have a standard shape. You can watch our video among the product images to learn how the cut pieces are prepared and how the surface areas are calculated. Dont forget, only tanneries like us has the highly precise machine to calculate leather surface, not merchants.

However, to put it simply, the above image will help you understand the size of the leather. As cowhide is very large and costly, we divide it into smaller pieces to offer them to our valued customers.

Here is some explanation about the leather surface area:

  • 12" x 12": Exact 1 Square Feet.
  • 12" x 24": Exact 2 Square Feet.
  • 2.5-4 Sqft: This option has approximately 3.25 Sqft average leather surface. This does not mean 2.5 Feet by 4 Feet.
  • 4-6 Sqft: This option has approximately 5 Sqft average leather surface. This does not mean 4 Feet by 6 Feet.
  • 6-8 Sqft: This option has approximately 7 Sqft average leather surface. This does not mean 6 Feet by 8 Feet.
  • 8-10 Sqft: This option has approximately 9 Sqft average leather surface. This does not mean 8 Feet by 10 Feet.
  • 10-12 Sqft: This option has approximately 11 Sqft average leather surface. This means not 10 Feet by 12 Feet.
  • 20-22 Sqft: This option has approximately 21 Sqft average leather surface. This means not 20 Feet by 22 Feet. If you want to buy half of the cowhide, you can select this. We will send one side of the cowhide.

Pro Tip: Also, you can calculate the surface area by measuring your leather (average) width and (average) length by inch meter. You can use this formula: Width x Length / 144 = Leather Surface area. For example, you have the leather dimensions of 24" x 36" (average). This means that you have 6 Square Feet of leather.

Full Grain Leather, instead of Genuine Leather!

  • Full Grain leather is the highest quality, made from the top layer of the hide, preserving the natural grain and imperfections, resulting in a durable and luxurious material that ages beautifully over time. On the other hand, Genuine Leather refers to lower-grade leather that has been processed and altered.

  • It may be made by splitting the top layer and applying artificial finishes. Genuine Leather is less durable and lacks the natural characteristics and longevity of Full Grain leather. When choosing leather products, opting for Full Grain leather ensures superior quality and long-lasting elegance.

  • When choosing leather, it is important to consider its quality and purpose. Full Grain leather is ideal for those seeking the highest quality, long-lasting leather goods that will develop character over time. Genuine Leather, while genuine, may not possess the same level of durability and natural beauty.

Vegetable-Tanned & Sustainable!

Full Grain Vegetable-Tanned Leather is a premium type of leather that undergoes a specific tanning process using natural materials such as tree bark and plant extracts. This process is called vegetable tanning and is known for its traditional methods. Full Grain refers to the topmost layer of the hide, retaining the natural grain and imperfections, which adds to its durability and unique appearance. Vegetable tanning enhances the leathers natural characteristics, making it soft, supple, and capable of developing a rich patina over time. This type of leather is highly sought after for its high quality, natural beauty, and sustainable production methods.
