CompactDry IFU Step 3CompactDry IFU Step 3

CompactDry Step 4CompactDry Step 4

Step 1

Remove the protective lid from the CompactDry plate.

Step 2

Drop 1ml of sample (dilute if necessary) in the middle of dry media.

Step 3

Sample diffuses automatically, transforming the dry medium to gel.

Step 4

Re-cap and incubate for the prescribed time. Count the number of colonies.

Hardy Diagnostics CompactDry EC is a ready-to-use chromogenic medium for performing E. coli and coliform counts that contains dehydrated culture media and a cold water-soluble gelling agent in a non-woven cloth matrix. The medium is instantly hydrated when inoculated with a sample, and capillary action diffuses the sample evenly over the matrix to form a gel within seconds. CompactDry EC contains two chromogenic substrates, Magenta-Gal and X-Gluc, that yield a colored reaction when utilized and permit the differentiation of E. coli from other members of the coliform group. CompactDry EC performs comparably to the FDA MPN method for enumeration of E. coli and coliform bacteria. CompactDry EC is AOAC validated PTM 110402

Features and Benefits:

  • Ready-to-use system: Reduces the time needed to perform microbial testing on food, cannabis, meat, cosmetics, raw materials and recommended for the determination of total aerobic bacterial counts.
  • Increase efficiency: Compared to other commonly used culture systems, CompactDry has a longer shelf life, can be stored at room temperature, does not require manual sample spreading, is rigid, stackable, easy to label, and allows for direct colony picking for further subculture
  • Easy to differentiate: Contains two kinds of chromogenic enzyme substrates: Magenta-Gal and X-Gluc. E. coli forms blue colonies, coliforms turn pink-purple. The total coliform group count is the sum of both the pink-purple and blue colonies.
  • Four connected plates: Each cassette comes can be easily snapped apart to support a variety of dilution scenarios and the ability to subculture without damage to colonies
  • Stored at room temperature: Competitor products are stored at temperatures less than or equal to 8°C

Recommended Use Detection and enumeration of indicator organisms rather than pathogens Detection and enumeration of Staphylococcus aureus Detection and enumeration of yeasts and molds in food Determination of total aerobic bacterial counts
Result Pink-purple colonies are indicative of coliforms and blue-colored colonies are indicative of Escherichia coli Two chromogenic substrates that result in light blue to blue colored colonies produced by S. aureus Blue colored colonies indicate yeasts. Molds form cottony colonies with characteristic colors Most colonies will be red due to reduction of TTC
