About Euro Nymphing

The Fly Crates Euro Nymphing Assortment contains 48 European nymphs from perdigons to micro jigs. All flies feature tungsten beads ranging from 2.5mm to 4.0mm and large hook gaps. No fly box is included. These are some of our absolute favorite nymphs used for tight-line nymphing and euro nymphing! All of 48 nymphs are tied on barbless hooks and finished well with head cement to ensure that none unravel even after a few fish. Plus, we use tungsten beads on every fly so you get a fast sink rate.

  • Quality stainless steel hooks.
  • Weighted bodies and tungsten beads.
  • Finished with head cement and wire wrapped.

Unlike other cheap fly fishing assortments, The Fly Crate fly assortments are crafted from premium steel and hand-tied by high-quality craftsmen. Our flies will not only look good but will stand up to high-volume daily use.

The Fly Crate is a small Pennsylvania company dedicated to promoting and teaching the amazing sport of fly fishing. Our goal is to provide the best fly fishing products and teach all levels of fly anglers something new. This kit is a must-have for beginners, intermediates, campers, or anyone who just needs to restock for the season.

How To Fly Fish Euro Nymphs

Typically, you have a long leader 15 - 22 feet and somewhere between 1 and 1.5-rod lengths of line out at a time so you can fish farther away. But, nothing is saying you can’t have more out – it just gets tough to cast and you start to lose the ability to detect soft strikes.

We’re going to be using a combination of weighted nymph flies to get down to feeding depths.

Typically, we’re fishing 1, 2, or 3 flies at a time unless local regulations prohibit using multiple flies. I usually fish 2 flies at a time spaced 12 - 14 inches apart with tippet - some people prefer up to 24 inches. We will use what’s called a dropper rig. This is where we have the upper nymph tied onto a tag of tippet off the main leader.

First, we choose a heavier fly that helps get our flies to depth quickly and then a more natural imitation we feel will do well in this stream.

We’re going to be using light tippet, 5x to 6x not because it’s less likely to spook trout but because thinner diameter tippet sinks faster.

Now you have two options when rigging up.

One, if you want all of your flies at the bottom, have the heaviest fly on the dropper tag. This makes it easier to target trout when they aren’t likely to be moving upward in the water column to chase down a meal.

Or two, if you want to have a fly a little higher in the water column for trout that may be eating emerging nymphs or are not hugging the bottom – then have the lighter weight and more natural fly on the dropper tag with the heaviest fly on the point, which is at the very bottom. This makes it easier to target trout when they aren’t likely to be moving upward in the water column to chase down a meal.
