START TO FINISH

We optimize our process for both efficiency and accuracy by utilizing Kawasaki robotic arms to load and unload bar stock into the Mazak multi-tasking machine centers. We use SCM420 alloy steel to lay the foundation and case harden to RC 57-59 with a core of RC 34-39 to provide good core strength and maximize wear life. The core creates a dampening effect which reduces vibration in high speed milling to improve surface finish. The AT3 or better taper accuracy ensures 80% or better taper contact with spindle and using Stotz Air/Electronic Gaging for inspection on the taper. We precision grind the internal bore surface to <.0002" TIR and all bores are ground on a CNC grinder to ensure close run-out tolerance and evenly contact between the collet and the bore pocket. We use Haimer laser balancing machines to deliver a tool that can operate flawlessly at 20000 RPM and Mitutoyo or Mahr indicators to check the run out.

Dynamic Balancing

Tool holder is balanced to G2.5 20,000 RPM on a HAIMER Tool Dynamic Balancing System from Germany. Balanced tool holder minimizes the centrifugal forces which minimize the stress on spindle bearing, minimize vibration and maximize the cutting tools life cycle and greatly improve surface finish.

Pre-Balance Design

Unique design feature in the flange to minimize the off-balance nature of CAT 40 taper specification. On the shoulder under the flange, a side is mill flat to compensate the weight of the metal chips lost from forming the spherical hole in the flange. This design allows the left side and right side of the holder to achieve 50-50 perfect weight distribution in its upright position, like the position inside a machine spindle. Symmetrical design in evenly weight distribution will minimize centrifugal force in high speed spinning and thus maximize the holders ability to hold the cutting tool concentric to spindle rotation.

High Torque Collet Nut

The maximum torque is laser marked on the ER collet nut face to take the guess game out of the way to ensure proper amount of force should be applied while tightening. Innovative coating process significantly increases the clamping force by 75% compared to standard ER collet nut. More gripping force provides better rigidity and reduces the possibility of losing grip on the round shank which lead to expensive damage on cutting tools and work piece material.

Asymmetrical O-Ring

Internal clamping rings shape is design to minimize out-of-balance compare to the standard off-center o-ring design from other standard ER collet nut, achieving 12,000 RPM without needed to drill holes on the collet nut body when placed on a dynamic balanced machine to preserve ER collet nuts body strength.

Tegara tool holder in action to go through the aluminum block like butter. The USA-Made end mills with high helix angle are designed for aluminum to increase feed rate and leaves a good surface finished. The workpiece is clamped in the Tegara 690X vise and machined in a Haas VF7 mill 40 taper.
